Merica, Merica

Dear friends, we got to end of this school year. Take this opportunity to thank all those who have followed us and who voted for us to get to 58 ยบ place of the "Top 100 Language Blogs 2010".

Thanks and see you next year.

As the last post we suggest the contribution of our friend Andres of 1 Avanzado. Happy reading and happy surfing!

few days ago I finally saw "O quatrilho" . This Brazilian movie of 1995 had enough success and was also named to ' Oscar as best foreign film. The film paints a "square love ", set against the backdrop of the Italian colony transferred in the first third of the twentieth century in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil . The name of the film refers to a card game quite popular in Brazil, in which each player must win to betray his partner.
Apart from the interest of the story all the charm of the film is in the context that makes those industrious and enterprising expatriates face with optimism the events that happened in the new world. During the film can see how the immigrants try to maintain their cultural identity especially around to the heads of their religious communities. This identity is manifested through music, dance, costumes and foods. On the other hand is especially nice to hear the Portuguese heavily loaded with Italian loans.

But maybe it's the end of the film, along with credits, which is one of his greatest contributions. Caetano Veloso plays a beautiful version of 'Merica, Merica, classic hymn sung by the late nineteenth century immigrants from the Veneto. You'll find the link to You Tube this version as background music to the saga of an Italian family transferred to Brazil ( WATCH THE VIDEO ).
